PRESS RELEASE

AFTER 5 YEARS - LAKE TAX ROLL IN THE POSITIVE

Tavares – Lake County’s tax roll received a boost this year from new construction reports the Lake County Property Appraiser, Carey Baker.  New home and business construction value added over $154 million to the 2013 tax roll.  The new Osprey Lodge in Tavares was the largest single contributor of value to this year’s tax roll.  “New construction helped to balance out the roll for the county and most cities. It basically offset home, business and land values that were still declining in some areas of the county during 2012”, says Baker, 874 new residential homes and 46 new commercial buildings were added.  It appears home sales finally hit bottom and we’re seeing signs of stabilization; it’s great news for the county and most cities following five years of decreases.”   The 2013 tax roll values are mostly reflective of property sales that occurred in 2012.

As a follow-up, the applicant has withdrawn his application.  So please spare yourself a trip and don't show up at tomorrow's Planning and Zoning Board meeting if you were planning to attend for this case alone.

The BCC met in the regularly scheduled session on Tuesday April 23. There were no comments to the BCC during the Citizen Question and Comment period.

The BCC heard Zoning cases. The Cemex Construction “Four Corners” Sand Mine issue was postponed until May 25.

One contentious issue was a request for a “text amendment” to the comprehensive plan of the Wekiva Basin, which allows property owners to mine 50% of their property if they obtain the proper permits; traffic and hours of operations and other concerns must also be addressed. The parcel of land in question is off Highway 437 between

LAKE COUNTY BUDGET UPDATE PDF Print E-mail
Written by Sean Parks
Saturday, 02 March 2013 11:04

While the fiscal crisis flares in Washington, locally, we have completed our first set of budget workshops.

We need 8.6 million to met the gap between anticipated revenues and expenses.  We are asking for an approximate 6 percent cut from every "user" of the General Fund such as BCC departments and Constitutional Officers.

This is going to be a very tough year.  But one I believe we can get through if we ALL work together on this - no politics or egos.
